If you already have a domain name and server space, you are ready to go on. If not, please email Melissa Fouch to set them up.
Once you have server space (or web hosting) and a domain name (or web site address such as www.yourname.com), you are ready to to begin the process of Designing your Web Site.
Begin the Web Design Process This document outlines the process by detailing the work and communication process involving the web designer (Six Design Studio) and the client (that is you!).
Phase 1: Determine specifications and requirements for your site.
Step 1: Meeting with Web Designer
The web designer meets with the client to determine several factors about the web site including information such as intended target audience, any description of the site, colors and font preferences, the purpose of the site, time constraints or rush segments, and whatever other details will help in determining the scope of the web site and site design.
Step 2: Proposal
The web designer reviews all information gathered in previous emails, phonecalls and in the meeting and determines a proposed estimate for the cost and description of the work to be done. This includes itemization of pages, layout structure, proposed schedule for completion, proposed cost, etc. This document will help determine exactly what the client is hiring the web designer to do. This may go back and forth a few times so that the client may make corrections, additions, deletions and so on.
Step 3: Sign-off on Proposal
Once the client approves of the proposal, he/she will sign off either on paper, or if necessary via email.
Step 4: Pay Deposit
Client provides payment for deposit to begin work. Deposit amount has by this time been determined within the proposal.
Step 5: Gather Content
Client gathers all content per detailed description from the proposal including text, links, images, animations, contact information, and all other content for the web site design.
Step 6: Content Delivery
Client provides the gathered content in appropriate formats (as detailed in the proposal) and delivers it to the web designer.
Step 7: Work Begins
Once web designer has ALL CONTENT and DEPOSIT, work will begin on the design of the web site.
Step 8: Prototype Delivery
Web Designer designs sample pages, look-and-feel, and navigation for approval. This stage also will go back and forth several times for changes in font choices, colors, information flow, etc. Client provides feedback and finally approval via sign-off. This stage is important because once the decisions are made for the overall design, changes will be priced by the hour or by agreement after sign-off. Often this is not understood by the client. This is where the DESIGNING takes place. After this, the web designer is actually putting things in place based on the rules established in the prototype for style, etc.
Phase 2: Develop Web Site
Step 1: Site is Built by Web Designer
This includes building administrative tools for blogs, updateable galleries, news pages, paypal set-up, etc. All content for the site will be formatted and built into a web site.
Step 2: Site is Shown to Client
MINOR adjustments such as typos, etc. If additions are made to the requirements of the web site (additional pages or anything else that was not in the original proposal), they will be charged by the hour or per addendum to the original proposal (flat price per the job). This step is not for design changes, and billing will be hourly if design changes occur at this stage.
Step 3: Adjustments are Made and Work is Completed.
Phase 3: Delivery of Web Site
Step 1: Sign-off on Web Site
Client approves via paper or email sign-off.
Step 2: Final Payment
Client provides final payment for work.
Step 3: Upload Web Site
Web Designer uploads the completed web site to the server space associated with your domain name (questions about this can be referred to metalissa@earthlink.net)
Step 4: Web Site is thoroughly tested
Client and Web Designer review live site for broken links, last details.
